WhatsApp Catalog Approval Time: How Long It Takes and How to Speed It Up

Quick answer

WhatsApp does not publish a fixed approval time for single catalog items. It says every item is checked first and shows to customers only after approval. For a new collection, WhatsApp says the check should take no more than 24 hours. Clear photos and complete details give an item the best chance of passing the first time.

What is the normal WhatsApp catalog approval time?

Here is everything WhatsApp's own help pages say about timing. We checked them on 6 October 2026.

WhatsApp catalog approval time, by what you add
What you addWhat WhatsApp says
A new item, with its photos or videosChecked before customers can see it. No fixed time is given.
A new collectionChecked, and should take no more than 24 hours.
A rejected item you appealYou can ask for another review. If that fails, you can reply to ask for a third.
Changes to a connected Meta catalogShould show in the WhatsApp Business app within 24 hours.

Be careful with websites that promise an exact number of minutes or hours for items. WhatsApp's help pages don't give one. When you see a short time quoted, it is someone's guess.

Why does approval take longer for some items?

WhatsApp checks every photo, video and item against its rules, the Commerce Policy. WhatsApp does not explain how long each check takes or why one item waits longer than another. These are the things you control:

  • Photos that look like adverts. WhatsApp says the catalogue is for listing products, not for showing advertisements. A photo full of offer text or a price banner is more likely to get a closer look.
  • Missing details. Every item needs a unique title, at least one photo and a country of origin. An item without them will not save at all.
  • Goods on the banned list. Alcohol, tobacco, medicines and some other goods are not allowed in a WhatsApp catalogue at all. Our guide on why WhatsApp rejects catalog items lists them.

What we see with real shops: owners often add a big batch of products the night before a sale and expect them all to show the next morning. Some are still waiting, and the sale post goes out with half a catalogue. Add new stock a few days before you plan to share it.

How to tell if an item is waiting, rejected or approved

Open the Tools tab and tap Catalog. Look at each item's photo.

What each item status looks like
StatusWhat you seeCan customers see it?
Waiting for reviewThe item is in your catalogue with no markNo
RejectedA red exclamation mark next to the photoNo
ApprovedThe item shows normallyYes

Waiting and approved items look the same to you. The only sure test is to open your catalogue from someone else's phone. If they can see the item, it is approved.

What to check if an item is stuck in review

If an item still isn't showing to customers after a day or two, work through this list.

  1. Open your catalogue on a family member's phone. Make sure the item really is missing for customers.
  2. Look for a red exclamation mark. If you see one, the item was rejected, not stuck. Go to the next section.
  3. Check that the item isn't hidden. Our guide to a WhatsApp catalogue not showing shows how to unhide items on Android and iPhone.
  4. Update WhatsApp Business from the Play Store or App Store, then close and reopen the app.
  5. If nothing works, contact WhatsApp support from the app. Tap Settings, then Help and feedback, Help Center and Contact Us.

What gets catalog items rejected

WhatsApp says items are rejected for a variety of reasons, and points sellers to its Commerce Policy. The policy bans some goods outright, such as alcohol, tobacco, drugs and medical products, weapons and adult products. It also bans items that are misleading. Our guide on why WhatsApp rejects catalog items covers each reason and what to do about it.

If you think WhatsApp got it wrong, you can appeal:

  1. Tap the rejected item.
  2. Tap Request another review.
  3. Type a short reason why the item is allowed.
  4. Tap Continue.

How to speed up WhatsApp catalog approval

You can't make WhatsApp review faster. You can make sure each item passes the first time, so you don't lose days to a rejection and an appeal.

  • Use a clear photo of the real product on a plain background. Leave out offer text, logos and price banners.
  • Give every item a unique name, like "Teak wood 3-seater sofa". Don't name ten items "Sofa".
  • Pick the country of origin every time. WhatsApp asks for it on every new or edited item.
  • Add items one at a time if saving fails. WhatsApp suggests this when changes don't save.
  • Add new stock a few days before you need to share it.
